Terms of Use

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Application and license

Pinleaf is an open-source desktop notes application maintained by Carlos R Moraes and contributors. Its software is provided under the MIT License. These terms explain use of the application and optional integrations; they do not replace or restrict rights granted by that license. Bundled fonts and other third-party components retain their respective licenses.

Your notes and responsibilities

You retain your rights to the content you create. Use Pinleaf only with data and accounts you are authorized to use, and comply with applicable law and third-party service terms. You are responsible for protecting your device, account, passwords and backup files. Keep independent copies of important information and verify that backups can be restored.

Backups and restoration

Backup and Google Drive features apply only to versions that include them. Google Drive is optional and requires your own account and authorization. Backups are point-in-time copies, not automatic synchronization. Restoring a library replaces its current contents after confirmation; review the preview and recovery information before continuing. Disconnecting does not remove existing cloud copies. A lost password for an encrypted backup cannot be recovered by the project.

Third-party services and availability

Google Drive, GitHub and other external services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Their availability, storage quotas, restrictions and changes may affect Pinleaf features. The project does not promise uninterrupted service, perpetual compatibility, a particular release schedule or a support response time. Features may change between releases.

Warranty and liability

As stated in the MIT License, the software is provided “as is”, without warranty, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement. To the extent permitted by applicable law, its authors and copyright holders are not liable for claims or damages arising from the software or its use, including data loss. Nothing here excludes rights or liabilities that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Privacy, contact and updates

See the Privacy Policy for how local data and optional Google data access work. Contact the maintainer through the maintainer's website, or use GitHub issues for non-confidential support. Updates to these terms will appear on this page with a revised date.
